Margaret Barron Norwulf GSDs
(30.06.1924 - 02.04.2008)

Margaret was born
June 1924 in Canterbury and was the daughter of a Master Builder and Carpenter. Her Mother
bought her a pet dog as a teenager; he was a spaniel cross called Bruce, who died at the
age of just under 17 years. She had completed her University studies to become a teacher
and Margaret moved to Crawley Sussex in 1959. She always wanted a GSD but
waited until she had her own place with a garden before purchasing her first GSD
bitch; Bruces Moonlight Dawn, then her second bitch Wolfdown Cleo. The affix
Norwulf was granted in 1959 and she bred from these two bitches, and kept one of their
daughters - Norwulf Woldown Hullaballoo. Margaret did a lot of searching and decided
to buy in a top winning male, Orson of Noblehurst from Julia Ward.
In 1961 Margaret moved to
Broadfield House in Crawley where she started her kennels and in the same year judged her
first breed show, as well as competing in obedience at the Croydon branch of the BAA, (now
BAGDS) to which she became a qualified instructor.
As she had built up a successful
boarding establishment and needing more space for the dogs the kennels moved to Charlwood
Surrey in 1967. In 1969 Margaret whelped Vikkas Debbie av Hvitsand owned by Iris Dummett,
and kept a daughter of hers, whom became her foundation bitch Champion Norwulf
Enchantment. |
Over the years
Margaret had either owned, bred, or bought in, 15 Champions, these are:

Margaret continued her teaching
until her retirement, as well as maintaing the showing and running the kennels. In
addition to all this she continued to Judge at Championship level, here and abroad. Her
greatest thrill was to judge Crufts in 1995. She was Top Breeder 2000 & 2001, served
on Numerous committees and did her turn as Breed Council Liaison Representative to
the Kennel Club |

Margaret ambition
was to try to promote the Breed to the best of her ability, to breed with the best of both
bloodlines available and most of all wanted to improve on toplines and croups. She also
wanted to give something back to the Breed that she loved so much, and received so much
joy from, not only the dogs, but all the friends that she met on the way. She would always
say they were Second to none. Her knowledge she has passed on not only in life; all her
books, pedigrees and pictures that she has left, will be History for the future of the
breed that she was dedicated to.
Margarets funeral was on
15th April, she was laid to rest at the church in Charlwood Village, she had flowers
from her close friends, a special thanks to Sue Binden who arranged the magnificent German
Shepherd tribute made from a photo of Ch Norwulf the Morris Dancer. Donations were made to
the German Shepherd Welfare, C/o Mrs Shelia Rankin. |
